To: Charter and Limousine Operators
Subject: Clean Air Vehicle Funding Assistance (Autos, Vans_and Minibuses)
Pursuant to the Clean Vehicle Policy adopted by the Airport Commission in 2000, SFO recommends that permitted Airport operators replace
conventional fuel vehicles with very low emission vehicles powered by CNG or electricity.
Both CNG and hybrid-electric vehicles have much lower fuel costs than gasoline or diesel vehicles, along with positive marketing value. CNG
vehicles enjoy unlimited access to high-occupancy vehicle lanes and ramps even without passengers. There are 25 CNG refueling stations in the Bay
Area , including two at the Airport.
The Bay Area Air Quality Management District assists transportation operators in funding new alternative fuel vehicles. This year, the District is
encouraging operators to apply directly to them for grant funding.
To provide operators with first-hand information and grant applications, Air District personnel will be available at SFO on Tuesday, December 1
between 10:00 a.m. and noon. Also at the workshop will be manufacturers of CNG autos, vans, and minibuses, and SFO's CNG fw:~ling
station operators. The workshop will be at Terminal 1, Conference Room A. To get there, go to the elevator behind the far left end of the Delta
Airlines ticket counter. Take the elevator to the third floor and follow signs to the Conference Rooms.
Air District grant applications will be due on Monday, December 14. To preview the guidelines and application forms before the December 1
workshop, please go to http://www.baaqmd.gov/tfcaregional. To apply, operators must have followed through on any past letters of intent to use
Airport-sponsored grant funding, must fully insure funded vehicles, and must commit to operating them full-time for a standard lifecycle.
Operators may also qualify for a substantial Federal tax credit. Manufacturer representatives will provide details at the workshop. For more information about the workshop, please contact Roger Hooson of the Airport at (650) 821 ":6511. For advance questions about Air District grant funding, you may contact the Air District's Michael Neward at (415) 749-4703.
