TO: SFO and SJC Ground Transportation Operators
SUBJECT: Existing SJC AVI Transponders
As you are aware, San Jose International Airport (SJC) is currently installing new transponders as part of their new A VI system. As these new transponders are not compatible with the A VI systems at San Francisco (SFO) or Oakland (OAK) International Airports, each ground
transportation operator will be required to have both the older SJC transponder that is compatible with those at SFO and the new SJC transponders that will work only at SJC.
In order to minimize any issues as a result of this change, SFO will now require the following effective September 1, 2009:
- Any existing SJC ground transportation operator with the existing transponders that are compatible with SFO's A VI system will now be required to register all of their vehicles at SFO, not just the portion of the fleet that operates at SFO.
- Any SJC ground transportation operator with the existing transponders that are compatible with SFO's AVI system will be required to obtain an SFO Airport operating Permit if they want to operate at SFO at any time.
- Those operators that have the existing SJC transponders that are compatible with SFO's A VI system will not be required to submit a transpondecdep_osit with SPO. HQwever, if the existing SJC transponder needs to be replaced with one from SFO, the $100 transponder security deposit will be required from the operator.
If you have any questions regarding this notice, pJease contact SFO's Ground Transportation Pennit Processing Unit at (650) 821-3600. Thank you for your assistance and cooperation during this transition period.
