The sun is shining and the vines are growing! Summer time is a great time to plan a visit out to Temecula Wine Country. The lazy days of summer are almost here and our member wineries are ready to take full advantage of the warmer weather and the longer twilight hours!
Summer is also known as "Concert Time" in Temecula Wine Country. Check out the concert schedules and upcoming special events at the following wineries:

Grillin' Wines for the Summer

Some like it hot. If you're ready to fire up the grill, grab your tongs and let's get this barbecue started! Here are some great suggestions to help you choose the best Temecula wine to pair with your grilled favorites.
Smokin' Red Wines
  • ZINFANDEL - Oak Mountain Winery - 2008 Estate Zinfandel - This Zin is a spicy, peppery wine, with varying degrees of fruit flavor from berries and dark cherries. Able to handle a wide variety of red meats, this bold red wine with black pepper spice, acidity and ripe tannins carries the meats' fats and texture to a new dimension. This Zin will also work well with barbeque sauce, steak sauce and mild salsas.
  • CABERNET SAUVIGNON - South Coast Winery Resort & Spa - 2006 Wild Horse Peak Cabernet Sauvignon - This wine is made for steaks with a higher fat content and burgers of beef or turkey. Top your favorites with bold cheeses, like blue or sharp cheddar and this varietal gets even better!
  • MERLOT - Falkner Winery - 2007 Merlot - With aroma of currants, delicious black cherry, ripe fruit flavors, and delicate softness on the finish this wine is perfect for grilled pork chops -or any grilled meat or poultry- with a yummy, spicy sauce.
  • SYRAH - Monte de Oro Winery - 2007 Estate Grown Syrah - With a smoky and spicy bou­quet on the nose, this wine leads to a dark, tart cherry, rasp­berry, chocolate-like taste. This varietal is delicious with just about any red meat. This Syrah has a smoky flavor that lends itself extremely well to smoked brisket.
  • PINOT NOIR - Wiens Family Cellars - 2009 Pinot Noir - This Pinot Noir is an ideal candidate for grilled fish - especially salmon - or even juicy burgers. Great medium-bodied, versatile wine!
Grillin' and Chillin' White Wines
  • CHARDONNAY - Callaway Vineyard & Winery - 2009 Special Selection Chardonnay - This wine will work wonderfully with grilled fish (including shellfish), grilled chicken with creamy sauces and grilled corn-on-the-cob with lots of butter!
  • RIESLING - Baily Winery - 2009 Riesling - A perfect wine for grilled brats, shrimp, barbecue chicken, grilled pineapple and a variety of grilled veggies. A wonderful choice for a picnic or poolside.
  • SAUVIGNON BLANC - Doffo Vineyards - 2010 Sauvignon Blanc - This wine is great for grilled chicken that has been doused in Italian dressing or a citrus marinade. Or, try it with roasted peppers, veggies in fresh herbs or grilled fish with dill and lemon.
  • GEWURZTRAMINER - Danza del Sol Winery - 2010 Gewurztraminer - This wine is a great choice to go with blackened Mahi Mahi or grilled Cajun chicken with fresh mango salsa.

It's WoW time!  Once again, the wineries of the Temecula Valley open their cellar doors for guests to enjoy a bevy of wines at our semi-annual two day barrel tasting event.  Old world wine varietals created in new world, Temecula style, will WoW ticket holders!

You'll enjoy a self-guided wine country tour that will take you to 30+ wineries, each of whom will be offering varietal wines from barrel, tank or bottle.  The wines will be paired with scrumptious food samplings which exemplify the perfect marriage of food and wine.  Ticket holders will receive a map of the Temecula Valley, a passport which allows a visit to each participating winery and a souvenir glass.

This whirlwind, two day event is a sure sell-out, so please order your tickets early to avoid disappointment.

  Purcahse Celebrate the Chinese New Year at Lorimar Winery.  The year of the Rabbit. On the Chinese calendar, it is the year 4708! The Chinese New Year that is celebrated for about fifteen days, is one moment in the year when the whole nation feels united as they can imagine each other’s enjoyment. The Chinese New Year is celebrated as the symbol of spring’s celebration. In fact, in China the Chinese New Year is still called the Spring Festival. We will be serving Chinese food to celebrate the Chinese New Year and offering complimentary decorative fans (while supplies last).

Fourth of July Celebrations - Reds, Whites, and Blues 


4thofjulyJULY 2nd - If you're lucky enough to be starting your weekend early, make sure to stop by some of our "weekend only" wineries, which are open only a few days each week.  Visit Danza del Sol Winery, Doffo Winery, Palumbo Family Winery or Vindemia Winery while you can! Or make a reservation to visit Briar Rose Winery or book a Private Hosted Tour & Tasting at Leonesse Cellars. 

Friday evening kicks off a fun weekend of live entertainment at Thornton Winery, Miramonte Winery, Stuart Cellars and Wiens Family Cellars.  

Want to get an early start? Head over to Callaway Winery's Meritage Restaurant for Happy Hour. Or visit Mount Palomar Winery for Wine Down Friday;  food and wine specials begin at 3pm. 
 

JULY 3rd - Join Falkner Winery as they celebrate their 10th Anniversary this weekend.  Enjoy live Jazz performances Saturday and Sunday from 11am to 3pm.  Take part in a winery tour, huge wine sale, hourly raffles, an outdoor BBQ and lunch specials at the Pinnacle Restaurant.

South Coast Winery is cooking on the 3rd with a Wild Women of Wine Country "Taste & Flavor" Cooking Class featuring unique approaches for Cheese & Wine pairings with a little BBQ Sizzle in the middle. If you’ve never been to a cooking class before – or even if you have – this is one class you won’t want to miss. Join Executive Chef Dean Thomas as he delights, educates and entertains. Learn his hot little tips, tricks and specialty culinary secrets.

During the afternoon, head over to Mount Palomar Winery, Keyways Winery, Oak Mountain Winery and Cougar Vineyard and Winery for live musical performances by local favorites.  In the evening, enjoy some Blues with your red or white at Miramonte Winery, rock out at Longshadow Ranch Winery or relax to some soulful music at Lorimar Winery in Old Town Temecula.

July 4 - On the evening of the 4th, join new Winery member Monte De Oro Winery for their 4th of July Celebration "Monte De Oro Pops". Experience an evening of American classic songs by the Los Angeles Doctors Symphony Orchestra & Choir. Enjoy wonderful music and great wine under the stars.  

July Jam Sessions in Wine Country

JULY 11th - Thornton Winery presents another Champagne Jazz Concert featuring jazz sensation KEIKO MATSUI.   Enjoy an amazing evening with this solo piano artist while relaxing on the Fountain Terrace. 

JULY 17th - Wilson Creek Winery goes Hollywood! HOLLYWOOD U2 is, by far, the best U2 tribute band. This band is not simply U2 impersonators, but consummate musicians who bring the true heart of U2 to every performance. 

JULY 24th - Wiens Family Cellars brings ska revival band, THE ENGLISH BEAT, to Temecula Wine Country.  Tickets are going fast for this upbeat concert event.

Family Time in Wine Country 

JULY 9th - Join Ponte Family Estate Winery for their 2nd Annual Family Movie Night featuring the DreamWorks Animated Motion Picture "Monsters vs. Aliens".  Enjoy an ice cream bar, popcorn, watermelon, candy, wine bar and silent auction to help raise funds for TEAM PONTE.  100% of the evening's proceed will help support the needs of the children of Oak Grove.  Admission is free although donations will be accepted at the door.  Food and beverages are  available at a small cost.  Picnic blankets are recommended or chairs will be provided. 

Celebrate the Arts in Wine Country

For the entire month of July, head down to Lorimar Winery in Old Town, Temecula for their "Summer Art & Wine Show".  This month guests will experience the art work of local Temecula resident, David Musser.  On July 3rd, meet  David during an artists reception from 6pm to 9pm.
 

July 9-11; 16-18; and 23-24th - Shakespeare in the Vines at Frangipani Estate Winery . Join our newest Winery member, for a Shakespeare in the Vines presentation of A Midsummer Night's Dream.  Performances begin at dusk.

Food & Wine in Wine Country

July 9th - Oak Mountain Winery - Cooking Classes with Ritz Carlton chef, Chef Michael.  Learn how to prepare 5 Star meals like a pro.  You will interact with Chef Michael and the owners of Oak Mountain Winery, Steve and Valerie Andrews.  Class will be held from 6pm to 9pm.  This is the first in their cooking series. Space is very limited.

July 17th - Wiens Family Cellars - Become a winemaker for a day!  Work with winemaker, Doug Wiens, in creating their  next premium blend. You'll have the opportunity to experiment with different wines from barrels and - as a group - you'll decide which varietals work best together. Light appetizers will be served.  Event is held 6:00pm  to 8:00pm.

July 17th - Stuart Cellars - Sample twelve of Stuart Cellars' wines right out of the barrel at their Futures Barrel Tasting. Enjoy an evening of delicious food, live music by L.A. Acoustic and dancing under the wine country stars. Event takes place from 6:30pm to 10:00pm.

And the winners are!  The California State Fair results are in – and Temecula wines proved once again that they can compete against the ‘big guys!”  Vindemia Winery won Gold, Best of Class and Best of Region for their Cabernet Franc; Gold for their Commonwealth; Silver, Best of Class for their Grenache.  Callaway won two Golds and two Best of Class awards for their Late Harvest Chardonnay and their Rosé of Sangiovese; Best of Class, Silver, for their Late Harvest Cabernet Sauvignon.  Baily Winery was awarded Double Gold, Best of Class for Montage.
